In June 2018 I will be beginning a roughly 2-2.5 year bike tour starting in Stockholm, Sweden and ending in Cape Town, South Africa.
I have been saving and planning for this trip for the last several years and can't wait to get started. I already did a 2.5 month tour in Central America in the winter of 2017 to test out gear (and myself) and I loved it! I am shooting for an average of 10 USD a day for the trip and camping/couchsurfing as much as I can to save money. I am also going to be cooking almost all of my meals unless prices are comparable to buying food on the side of road. This will be my first time in Europe and my trip is not set in stone as to what route I will be taking from Sweden to southern Spain. I mostly just want to get over the Pyrenees before the snow fall begins, so shooting for crossing in late September or October. I am then planning on ferrying across to Morocco and following the western coast of Africa down. In Central Africa I would love to try and cross over to Eastern Africa and continue South for the sake of visiting Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
For average daily distance cycled I am ok with 50-100 km days (with more or less depending on terrain/interest of sights in the area. This is a very open ended trip with the ultimate goal to just experience life on a bike through other cultures and countries and not rush through from point A to point B. My father is hoping to join me in much of Europe, and potentially my mother and brother for other sections and areas. If anyone has route recommendations in certain areas, would be interested in bike touring and joining me in the aforementioned style then it would be awesome to have them!
