I am a keen bike rider of both on-road and off-road trails and have been cycle touring for a couple of years. I live and work in the National Forest - a quiet and beautiful part of the UK. We are right in the heart of the country, embracing 200 square miles of the Midlands, spanning parts of Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. The National Forest was created in 1992, and links the two ancient Forests of Needwood and Charnwood. With a history of coalmining and heavy industry the landscape is slowly being reclaimed to create a rolling landscape of farmland, newly planted woodland and ancient forests. The main towns and villages include Burton upon Trent (famous for its brewing), Coalville and Swadlincote (formerly associated with clay and coal industries) and the historic market town of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. We have lots of quiet lanes, off road trails, canals and bridleways to explore. We are also on the doorstep of the Peak District, which offers more challenging riding opportunities. Come and visit!
