Hi!

I'm thinking of go on my first cycle tour in the spring. I normally just go on weekend rides of about 20-40 miles. have built up over the past few months as my fitness has improved. Getting hooked on cycling and want to see new places.

Is there anything special people do to train for touring? And what about eating? Any tips on what to eat when out? At the moment, I just top up on banana's and energy drink.

Any advice appreciated!

thanks

Hi Mike,

Great to hear you are getting into touring.

In my experience as long as you have a reasonable underlying fitness, you will be fine with touring. Take each day as it comes. If you feel tired, stop. Feeling good, carry on. That is the beauty of touring for me, especially as I camp & don't book into hotels until the day - gives flexibility to do and go where you want. So I wouldn't over think it. Just get out and enjoy the ride. you will learn from each tour.

As for food.... I eat the same kind of foods I eat at home. I just eat much more. Lots more! Just see what works for you, as we are all different. I always make sure I have emergency food ready if I cannot find food anywhere. Things like nuts, bananas, chocolate.. high energy stuff that stops you from the dreaded cyclists 'bonk'.

Good luck with your touring. Hope you have fun :-)

cheers
