Hi! I'm new to cycling and touring. What do people eat when out touring? I'm off on my first tour in a few weeks and wanted to know what to buy? Is it best to carry food around? And what kind of foods?

Thanks Tim.

It's been 20 years since I last toured, but I ate pretty simply when I did. I brought along dried salami, a heavy bread (nut bread is good) and various forms of fruit. This got me along a couple of short tours of 800 miles or so.

I second the salami option - or other cured meats. they are a good way to get calories into you and don't weigh down your panniers. Chorizo is a particular favorite of mine. Bit of bread, cheese and chorizo - makes me hungry typing! :-)

I wrote a couple of articles last year to give a few ideas... Might give you a few ideas..
